The Hollywood Hills are part of the eastern section of the low transverse range of the Santa Monica Mountains. Known for it being right above Hollywood. Hollywood Hills extends from the Los Feliz District and Hollywood on to the south side of the San Fernando Valley to the Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu and the Pacific Palisades. The Hollywood Hills sense the 1920s has had extensive residential development; these areas include Mulholland Drive, Beachwood Canyon, Laurel Canyon, Nichols Canyon and Mount Olympus. The Hills are well known for their mansions of the rich and famous.

The best-known landmark of the Hollywood hills is the Hollywood sign. This has been an icon to the entertainment industry of the world. The Hollywood sign originally read “Hollywoodland” and was erected in 1923 to advertise a new housing development in the hills above Hollywood. For several years the sign was left to deteriorate. Until 1949, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce stepped in and offered to remove the last 4 letters and repair the rest. Now years later the Hollywood Hills is known for have some of the most spectacular mansions in California.
